Hiya cuties!!! It's me!! I am now 33 weeks pregnant WHAT THE WHAT. I feel like this pregnancy has been going soooo slowly (mostly bc I have not had a super happy-clappy go at it and the days spent in migraine-laden, nausea-consumed, concussion-rehab hazes have seemed never-ending...its been so hard to instagram/look cool/look like I feel good and/or that I spend less than 90% of my time in loungewear nowadays!!)
Then suddenly I woke up this week with my baby now almost fully grown in utero and I realized this is exactly how the days go slowly but the years fly by and suddenly you've lived a whole life. Basically, I'll be a mom soon and it is blowing my mind. SU-RRE-AL.
For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that upon falling pregnant, I did not suddenly purloin a nourishing lifestyle from the zeitgeisty movement on social media: #selfcare. (tehe hashtag movements) I have always had a serious affinity for self-care and the general notion of taking time and responsibility for yourself. Since graduating college/uni, I floundered around in my 20s (I'm now 30) figuring out what it meant for me personally to nourish myself. It took a decade but now I know that it really works well for my body/mind/soul when I eat a nourishing diet (local, organic and non-processed whenever possible without subscribing to or preaching food snobbery), when I adopt nourishing habits (ie, yoga, hiking, walking in nature, mindfulness), when I use clean household products (castille soap as detergent and cleaner, ceramic cookware, essential oils- though I don't know how not to use bleach in bathrooms...), and finally, when I use clean beauty products.
So I'd like to start a backlash to the backlash of #selfcare and chat about all things beautiful and nourishing today in the form of my Beaux Pregnancy Beauty Edit...featuring my favourite clean beauty brands that *BONUS* make my home beautiful too.
In the last 10 years, it has been literally like climbing Everest (no hyperboles here) trying to find *chic* eco/clean/organic/etc products. I hated that I had to choose between beautiful designs with chemically-laden ingredients or else ugly, brightly-coloured bottles with nice ingredients. In the run up to motherhood, I have been particularly sensitive to this polarity and gap in the market as I have been very aware of the logical fallacy I sometimes find running through my head: "when you become a mom you become frumpy and suddenly your life becomes a compromise." (WAHHHH WAHHH, slash how did I come to even say that to myself!?) And whilst in the thick of wading through sad maternity-wear options and seeing eye-sores of 'clean beauty' bottles speckling my bathroom, I started to believe for a minute or two. But this is not actually reality!! With the help of these 4 more relevant beauty brands aka my beauty tribe, I did a 180'. (ps, I've also found my maternity wear groove and am actually quite keen on it all now! BLAAMO!)
So...why clean beauty, Ashley? Well, Ashley, pregnancy has given me an even deeper respect for the human body. In the last 8 months, this little one's life has depended on my hormones and the proper production/secretion/implementation of said hormones via an intricately designed endocrine system (can't take any credit for that.) Looking ahead, I'll also need my uterus to be a chemical and toxin-free environment to enable a smooth birth. In other words, I need to let my body do it's thang! So esp. during pregnancy, I have tried to make sure I've nixed the endocrine-inhibitors* in my self-care regime. I haven't got it totally nailed, but hopefully my little endocrines are having a good time being free/being where they need to be.
*I highly recommend looking into known endocrine inhibitors and their effects from trusted sources!
These 4 brands are my top Beaux picks of the current clean beauty market proffering and they have seen me through this difficult pregnancy with all the nourishment and care that I so deeply value/have needed. And I am excited they will see me into motherhood as well.

Before I talk about each brand I first have to take a moment to honour the beautiful packaging that these brands have nailed. It's as beautiful as their ingredients. Full stop. See above.
Ok let's jump in!
Let's start with By Rosie Jane, from my own Southern California. The only perfumes and candles I've used whilst pregnant and will wear when baby comes. Here's why: Unisex. Coconut wax candles. Phalate, sulfate, phosphate & paraben-free* fragrances. Oh also, my favourite scent from them smells exactly like Hawaii. (TILLY!!!!!!!!) Made in the USA!
*I highly recommend looking into those chemicals from trusted sources to decide if they have a place in beauty products!
OMG Austin Austin...be still my heart!!! I literally screamed when I found this brand. Why do I love them? Their packaging is actually next level. They partnered with an artist to create the drawings. Their ingredients are TOP. Sustainable and organic. Sans parabens, SLS, silicones, mineral oils, artifical colours/fragrances, or GM ingredients. Made in the UK! They have amazing hair and body care products. I esp. love the neroli body cream for pregnancy rubs.
Clemence Organics. I especially love this line bc it was created by a naturopath. 95% organic. Sans parabens, potassium sorbate, PEGs, nanoparticles, SLS, SLES, ALS, petrochemicals, artificial fragrances, phthalates, formaldehyde, cocomidopropyl betaine, or GM ingredients. I take the travel kit with me on every flight. Cannot wait to use the below on Baby. Made in AUS!
Herbyyyyyyyy I love youuu! So pretty. Sans synthetic ingredients, parabens, sodium laurel sulfate, phthalates, chemicals, fillers, animal testing, mineral oils, or petroleum. I use their Rose Hibiscus spray everyday, and it's the best makeup setter I've ever used. Made in the USA!
Alright!!! I hope you cuties are having a good week.
(ps, these brands are not limited to pregnancy!!!)
